Fatal Flaw is seeking applicants for a Fiction Reader to read submissions for our short fiction and flash fiction categories.

We are a quarterly, online literary magazine in our first year of publication, so this position offers the opportunity to play a part in building out the magazine. The Fiction Reader would work closely with the editors to read and select submissions to move forward in the review process. They would also review the selected fiction and flash fiction prior to publication, offering an inside look at the publication process.

An ideal candidate would have badass writing and communication skills, an expert eye for detail, and a personal style/taste that aligns with Fatal Flaw’s vision: to publish unexpected, topical writing and photography that considers the world through a cracked lens. We gravitate toward writing that is gutsy, unguarded, and subversive, with a bloody, beating heart at its core. As such, we’d love to join forces with a fellow lover of odd, absurd, and bravely blunt writing that challenges the status quo. To get a good idea of the type of work we publish, check out our most recent issue here.

We are looking to fill this role ASAP. Work for our winter issue would begin with the start of our next submission period (early January). We are an NYC based magazine, but work can be done remotely. This position requires up to 5-10 hours a week. The time commitment may be on the higher end as we near submission deadlines and publication dates, but otherwise will usually be on the lower end. While we work to secure future funding the role is currently on a volunteer basis, but offers the opportunity for an established position within a burgeoning magazine.

If you have any questions about the position, please feel free to reach out to us at fatalflawlit@gmail.com.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
